2008 Dates and Rates

Our schedule of river trips, backpack trips and fishing trips is influenced by the annual patterns of the Yukon's weather and wildlife populations.

Pre-arranged groups of four or more are eligible for a 10% discount.

Yukon River.

May 12th – 19th. Minto to Dawson City. $2120. per person

This trip is an exceptional bear viewing experience for both grizzly and blacks. There are lots of migratory birds as well and there are no bugs! Spring has broken the icy cast of winter and the river is just open. The year's first greenery of bearberry, grasses and crocus brings hungry bears out into the open for incredible viewing opportunities. This trip has always utilized freighter canoes instead of paddle canoes.  The freighters are significantly larger which allows for a larger and more comfortable camp and they are outboard powered which can be of safety significance when there is ice running in the river. This trip encompasses light to moderate hiking on a daily basis.

Teslin River.

May 26th – June 2nd. Johnson’s Crossing to Carmacks. $1920. per person

We chose this time frame because of the numerous opportunities to view cow moose with newborn calves. Cow moose instinctively seek the protection of river areas during late May and early June to give birth which extends a wonderful viewing opportunity to the river traveler. Wildlife in general is abundant - wolves, bear, caribou, furbearers and birds.  Campsites are of good quality and numerous. River transportation will be freighter canoe with paddle canoe option.

Pelly River.

June 9th – 17th. Faro to Pelly Crossing. $2120. per person

The purpose of this trip is much the same as for the Teslin River mentioned above - viewing wildlife.  Generally speaking, this river has more 'wild' in it than the Teslin - it is more remote and receives fewer river travelers; it is narrower and shallower which might give a greater sense of being "in" the wilderness; its mountains in the upper half are somewhat more grand and produce very dense populations of moose; and, its lower half is a dense bushland that is very productive for a variety of boreal wildlife.  Paddle canoe only.

Aishihik Lake.

June 21st - 25th. $1125. per person.

This trip is particularly well suited to two people.  Aishihik Lake is a very beautiful high country lake near treeline; its water is deep, cold and crystal clear.  This is a fishing trip for lake trout the way fishing trips are meant to be. It's old fashioned with tents and a tarp kitchen. The fishing runs good to fantastic. Experience the longest days of our year with sunshine over 21 hours a day. Rafts of ducks are common and chances are good of seeing wood bison, caribou, moose and bear. The adjacent hills of the Ruby Range offer good light hiking opportunities.

Coast Mountains.

July 14h - 19th and July 22nd – 27th. $1350. per person

Backpacking is the ultimate freedom feeling! Experience the thrill of 7000’ peaks, grass meadows with innumerable alpine flowers, wild sheep, marmot, pika, ptarmigan, falcons and golden eagles, grizzly bear, fox and bunting. The mountain vistas roll on as far as the eye can see. Remote. No man-made trails.

Wind River.

Aug 4th - 19th. McCluskey Lake to Taco Bar on the Peel River. $4825 per person.

The Wind River trip is a spectacular wilderness experience. A crystal clear river with some long stretches of Class II water, the Wind offers some paddling challenges.  Exceptional hiking opportunities in the Wernecke Mountains and lots of wildlife viewing opportunities. A once in a lifetime adventure.  Access is by floatplane out of Mayo, Yukon.

Big Salmon River.

Sept 8th - 17th and Sept 22nd – Oct 1st. Quiet Lake to Carmacks. $2650 per person.

The first is a paddle canoe trip and the second is a freighter canoe trip that is limited to two clients. The river is narrow, shallow, moderately fast and with many gravel bars and sweepers. A portage at the upper end is necessary on some years. The season is autumn - a time of migration, fall colours, the breeding season of ungulates, harvest moons, northern lights, frosty nights and wolves howling. This is an incredible wilderness experience that transcends wildlife viewing.
