About Cedar and Canvas Adventures

Your Dynamic Duo, Clayton and Nansi

A northern lifestyle experience!

Cedar and Canvas Adventures began in 1995 as a river-based wilderness adventure company offering you the highly pleasurable experience of wood-and-canvas canoes in the 18’ Chestnut Prospector design and outboard powered 22’ square sterned freighter canoes.

Our adventures were designed on our own wilderness experiences with a focus on the respect and conservation of fish and wildlife and its habitat, the wise use of the earth's natural resources, knowledgeable and experiential interpretation, superb meals, safety and comfort and last, but not least, friendly service.

We believe in the conservation of fish and wildlife and its habitat

In 2001, we diversified by adding backpacking and fishing tto our annual schedule of trips and for good reason – these were activities that we had personally been involved in for many years and it only made sense that alpine wilderness experiences and the many joys associated with flat water be included to round out the Cedar and Canvas Adventures vision of people being a part of nature rather than apart from it.

We believe people are part of nature rather than apart from it.

Clayton White has been an ardent outdoorsman for the whole of his life. A Conservationist with a fundamental belief in the wise use of the earth's natural resources, he is a well experienced and resourceful woodsman  Over the last number of years, he has held board positions with the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board, the Yukon Fish and Game Association and the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Clayton is also a student of Yukon history who enjoys storytelling and reciting the verse of Robert W. Service. With an inspiring ability to teach, Clayton enjoys sharing his outdoor experiences in river travel, backpacking, wilderness survival, Yukon fauna and the conservation principles of hunting, fishing and trapping.

People change when they go down a river and that's the part of Cedar & Canvas Adventures that Nansi Cunningham loves. With a degree in Kinesiology and a career in helping organizations and individuals pursue quality and purposeful direction, Nansi has watched their clients, from young children to older adults, enjoy their own unique learning - and all from a ride down a river.

Together, Clayton and Nansi have created Cedar and Canvas Adventures as an opportunity for you to experience the pristine natural ecosystems of Yukon rivers and backcountry and share in our unique northern lifestyles.
